OC awards «Fair Play Prize» to Michela Carrara
The start of the title competitions in Lenzerheide last Wednesday was anything but ordinary. In the women's individual competition, it seemed that Italy's Michela Carrara would win the gold medal. But then it turned out that two of the Italian's misses were cleared by a competitor - a curiosity par excellence. Carrara and the Italian team showed fair play and gave the victory to the German Lisa Maria Spark.
According to the evidence, the jury should have awarded the gold medal to Michela Carrara. The Italian came forward and admitted her actual mistakes, which relegated her to 11th place.
The organisers of the European Biathlon Championships appreciated this fair gesture and presented Michela Carrara with a personalised «fair play award» in the style of the mascot «Lenzi» after the pursuit races this Saturday.
